Khor Al Adaid, also known as the Inland Sea, is one of Qatar’s finest treasures and a prime tourism asset. An area of breathtaking beauty at the country’s southernmost point, it is reachable only by 4WD vehicles, and the view on arrival is stunning.
The backdrop of towering crescent-shaped sand dunes soaring from the water’s edge makes for a magnificent photo opportunity. The sea surges west in a narrow channel that divides Qatar from Saudi Arabia, then curves north to create a shallow tidal lake.
To visit, besides a 4WD vehicle, you need someone familiar with the route and, preferably, a convoy of vehicles. Alternatively, local tour operators organize day trips and overnight camps, providing picnics, barbecues, folkloric entertainment and sometimes the opportunity to ride camels or go sand-skiing.
